Situated just a few blocks from the children’s home in Gunung Sitoli, Jochebed’s Hope operates 3 dormitories (2 male, 1 female) for upper-high school and college-aged students pursuing further education in the city. Students in the dormitories have access to free housing and a monthly stipend, allowing them to pursue educational opportunities to which they would otherwise not have access.
For those too old to participate in traditional education programs, Jochebed’s Hope regularly offers vocational training courses to equip individuals with practical trade skills. Over the years there have been courses in hair cutting, motorcycle repair, and sewing. Currently, the sewing program is the most popular and regularly scheduled. To supplement such programs, we are continually working to supply graduates with the necessary equipment and/or opportunities to put their new skills into practice.
Jochebed’s Hope is invested in supporting the Churches of Christ on the island of Nias, of which there are nearly 100. In order to do so, we support two travelling preachers who visit the churches across the island each Sunday to speak, and we offer financial assistance to congregations wishing to replace the roofs of their buildings. Beginning in the Summer of 2021, we will be holding an annual church leadership training seminar, open to any church members wishing to attend.
