The children’s home sits on the church property on the main road in Gunungsitoli. Children move here from their homes to receive food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and access to schools. Students in the children’s home range from elementary to high school age and attend several different schools, all within walking distance of the property.
Situated just a few blocks from the children’s home in Gunungsitoli, Jochebed’s Hope operates 3 dormitories (2 male, 1 female) for upper-high school and college-aged students pursuing further education in the city. Students in the dormitories have access to free housing and a monthly stipend, allowing them to pursue educational opportunities to which they would otherwise not have access.
For those too old to participate in traditional education programs, Jochebed’s Hope regularly offers vocational training courses to equip individuals with practical trade skills. Over the years there have been courses in hair cutting, motorcycle repair, and sewing. Currently, the sewing program is the most popular and regularly scheduled. To supplement such programs, we are continually working to supply graduates with the necessary equipment and/or opportunities to put their new skills into practice.
Jochebed’s Hope is invested in supporting the Churches of Christ on the island of Nias, of which there are nearly 100. In order to do so, we support two travelling preachers who visit the churches across the island each Sunday to speak, and we offer financial assistance to congregations wishing to replace the roofs of their buildings. Beginning in the Summer of 2021, we will be holding an annual church leadership training seminar, open to any church members wishing to attend.
Though the primary efforts of Jochebed’s Hope are now on the island of Nias, we continue to support Connor’s House, a children’s home in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta. At Connor’s House children receive housing, food, clothing, medical care, and education.
In addition to supervising the staff on Nias, Daniel preaches for the church that meets in Bekasi, on the eastern edge of Jakarta. He and his wife, Naomi, serve the church out of their home, which has been renovated and named Connor’s House. They have five children in their long-term care, and assist others short term as needed. Daniel also has a weekly live radio and internet program sponsored by One Kingdom (formerly World Radio). Daniel and Naomi have three adult children.
Fatarambowo has worked as an evangelist on Nias for many years. He and his wife, Salinaria, have eight children. Fatarambowo is a graduate of Batam Bible College.
Faatulo has worked as an evangelist on Nias for many years. He and his wife, Ru’Ida, have seven daughters and one son. Faatulo is a graduate of Batam Bible College.
Suma is the youngest of eight children, and a Jochebed’s Hope alumnus, having graduated from high school while living in one of the dormitories. Suma has completed a Master’s degree in English from the University of Jakarta. Suma and his wife, Rika, have one son.
